The third day of the environmental disaster for the Nature of Ukraine, caused by the hands of the aggressor and the enemy, continues. Unprecedented in scale, incredible in the number of negative impacts, inevitable in its consequences and cruel in its essence, an ecological disaster against all living things located downstream of the Kakhovsky Reservoir... Barbarians fighting with prohibited methods and ways of waging war, villainy terrorizing the peaceful the population, scoundrels who steal people and children - from now on they also became inhumans who committed aggression against the innocent Mother Nature herself.
The sixth of June 2023 became for our Nature what February 24, 2022 was for Ukraine. Absolutely senselessly and without reason, non-humans disabled the dam, thereby releasing billions of cubic meters of reservoir water, which could not help but cause trouble and disaster for all living things along and beyond it. Of course, first of all, this led to the risk of people dying and causing damage to their places of residence, as well as infrastructure, industrial and agricultural facilities. However, unfortunately, this is the reality we have been living with for more than a year and, frankly speaking, few people in Ukraine can be surprised by this. Instead, the relevant services know how to respond and act and do so.
But, perhaps, the consequences for the environment - that is, all living things that have been affected or will be affected by the consequences of this disaster - are more shocking at the moment. After all, hundreds of thousands of ecosystems and organisms were destroyed by water or flooded, which were not in their natural conditions, which leads to the damage of these systems and the death of their representatives. And they don't know what to do... And we don't know and/or can't help it. And this is the fundamental difference and the biggest pain...
At the moment, it is almost impossible to estimate the damage to the environment that this disaster will cause. Despite the fact that the damage to Ukraine's environment has already been calculated in billions of hryvnias, this catastrophe has a completely different dimension due to its global nature, and it can already be argued that its consequences will exceed all previous damage during the entire war. Undoubtedly, such actions fall under the definition of ecocide and are a criminal offense in Ukraine. I hope that the international community will not stand aside and this case will become the subject of a legal action not only for damages, but will lead to another warrant for the arrest of the Nedführer, and possibly a sentence for all their entourage.
In terms of its scale, this disaster is already being compared to Chernobyl. It so happened that June 4 is the Day of Water Management Workers, June 5 is the World Day of Environmental Protection, and June 6 will probably fill our calendar with a black day for the Environment of Ukraine...
